"Bruckner's symphony no.0("zero") is posthumous published work which was found in the composer estate.The nickname "Zero" is somehow misleading and is probably misinterpretation of the German adverb "Nullte"=cancelled, which the composer wrote on the heading of the draft reflecting his wish to refrain the publishing of the work in his life time.The work is classified in style and spirit as one of his early symphonies, most likely in proximity with the 1st symphony.It's still the naive and classic style which predominate in all the parts of the work, but eventhough there are conspicuous signs of later works as unique craftmanship of using strings unison and wind fanfares which is the hallmark of Bruckner's mature symphonies.For Sir Neville Marriner, reknown conductor who is famous for classical and string repertoire as Beethoven, Schubert and Mozart conducting Bruckner is a real novelty and a challange he overcame outstandingly. His interpretation is fluent and swift with correct marking on peaks of the work.The sound except minor discrepancies is a refreshing surprise. This CD has an honourable place in the neighbourhood of several Bruckner low price and best performances of his symphonies like "Arte Nova" releases."
