The main virtue in Furtwangler' s interpretative directorial, resides in the fact his Beethoven sounds as a real force of the nature, like if all the Greeks Gods would be present at unison and decided to express through this colossal work, of cosmic dimension and powerful mythic transcendence. To conduct the Eroica is an odyssey in all the sense of the word. Such grandness level and divine opulence has not been able to be achieved never before in any other Symphony, not even in the Fifth or Ninth Symphonies.
Historically, the Eroica symbolized the new European spirit, the formation of a new man, inspired, supported and conceived for telluric forces, as an outburst of volcanic energy. Furtwangler was aware of this profound significance and idiomatic contain. It colud be said that the Eroica was brazed in Furtwangler `s soul. Every time we listen any of his performances, we literally are conveyed to other dimension, where the cathartic experience states by itself as the final result of an unfaltering vision and unfathomable meaning.
This majuscule version, recorded in wartimes is one of the most emblematic and powerful performances ever made in all the story of the music. It's useless to define it of another fashion; the magnitude of its incandescent breadth and sublime conviction confers it an unequaled place, among the greatest Eroica ever recorded.
This Don Juan possesses balance, energy, intensity and vigorous tempo. Furtwangler arranged all these factors in perfect tune conferring in this sense a biological structure and earnest significance.
Absolutely recommended.
