"I just bought this out of print disc on Amazon for about $30.00 and wasn't expecting this to be one of the best Bruckner 4th's but boy how wrong could I be. This unfolds so beautifully and naturally (not episodically like some do) that it's very easy to listen to in it's entirety. This Bavarian Radio Symphony is superb in the brass section as one of your other reviewers noted. The trumpets cut through superbly. I do like Karajan's EMI version from 1970, especially because of the unbelievably brilliant 1st movement which is recorded magnificently with even more blazing brass than this Klemperer reading, but overall, I think that this Klemperer version might better it by a little bit. I have a handful of cds by old Klemp, and they are all excellent but this Bruckner has sold me on Klemperer forever and he could possibly be in the top five of all the great conductors that have ever lived. I think if you're not already, you too will be totally sold on Klemperer as one of greats of all-time after hearing this amazing performance. I bought the last copy here on Amazon for just about $30.00, so if you want to aquire this magnificent version, you might need to check this entry regularly, and you might just be able to find a copy over the next several months. It's definitely worth spending top dollar for too.

p.s Some d.a. is trying to sell this for $99.99, which is totally ridiculous. Wait just a little while longer and probably someone will sell it for a reasonable price.

"This is by far my favorite recording of this symphony. It is taken from a live concert in Munich, but audience noise is almost nonexistent. Klemperer is at his finest, and he conducts with total commitment to the music. The Bavarian Radio Symphony also plays spendidly for Klemperer. I would sum up this performance by saying it possesses great depth and integity, warmth, clarity, and energy. It never loses momentum. It also sounds very spontaneous and free. Klemperer plays his music straight with no overly-romantic schmaltz. He lets the music speak for itself. Don't miss this great recording!"
