It `s far to be a secret to affirm the virtuosity of this emblematic Orchestra; it keeps the well known nasality of the Russian ensembles, but the energy `s display of strings and woods is really surprising. A long tradition of notable foreign conductors, such Stokowski, Szell, as well as well as famed and talented Czech conductors such as Vaclav Talich, Rafeal Kubelik, Vaclav Smetacek, Karel Ancerl and Vaclav Neuman have conferred this ensemble has been more than evident.



It's well known the close affinity between the Czech Philharmonic and this talented conductor. Vaclav Neuman is one of these conductors who was molded according the old school of direction, scrupulously attentive to details, consistently precise and besides he is gifted of that required clinical eye in what concerns to expression, the introspective moods, and undeniable rhythmic vitality. Neuman wisely knows Mahler must be felt, transpired and intuited; every phrase has its own place into the musical canvas. Nothing is superfluous.



What I mostly like in his performances is the vivid result, that allows him to create atmospheres emphasizing the contemporariness of this latent anguish that besides, underlies beneath the score. Neuman extrapolates the significance of the message, to other latitudes.



Perhaps my only complaint is about the lack of major incisiveness in the Second Movement where you must remark, the acidic Lander with the aridness of the of accompaniment.
