Great Tchaikovsky, Great Orchestras

"This Tchaikovsky 5th is one of the finest ever recorded. Gramophone magazine also made this statement in a least two separate reviews. The transfer in this 2-for-1 issue sounds cleaner than the CBS Great Performances issue, also currently available. Szell/Cleveland--what more needs to be said here?

The violin concerto is excellently played and the NYPO's accompaniment is first-rate. The second disc contains all the popular non-symphonic works, played with the characteristic authority and beauty Ormandy brought to all his Tchaikovsky at Philly. Excellent buy!"
