Peggy Glanville-Hicks was an Australian composer who found inspiration overseas, spending time in the UK and the US before settling in Greece. The spell of the Mediterranean exerted a powerful influence over her, and this album features her 'Etruscan' piano concerto with its finely etched and richly coloured scenes of ancient life, and the final scene from her exotic opera Sappho, never before performed or recorded in its original scoring.
