"Pendergrass worked his way up to the front. He began as a drummer with a Philly group called the Cadillacs, then served as a backup singer for Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, then became lead singer for that group (represented here by a live hits medley), and finally took off as a solo artist who, based on this double disc collection, deserves more respect. Whether it's the gently unfolding butterfly wings of "Love TKO" or the all-out assault of "You Can't Hide from Yourself," TP's exquisite timing and gruff voice bring to life a host of material by great writers, most notably Gamble & Huff."
Very soulful

"Teddy Pendergrass is/was a very soulful singer and this anthology shows that. He had many great songs on Philadelphia International, which is what this anthology focuses on. This may actually be his best work, before going to the Elektra label. It is a must have for the TP fan."
