CD Reviews

Great debut!
Greg Kinne | midwest | 07/09/2009
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Picking up the heir to the power pop mantle after Weezer went wrong, the debut album by Telekinesis proves that power pop is not dead and that's great news for fans of the genre and for fans of quality indie rock. Telekinesis is the project of Michael Benjamin Lerner who wrote and played nearly all of the instruments on the album. Influenced by the timeless pop songs of the `60's and `70's, producer Chris Walla and Lerner recorded and mixed most of the songs in a single day and this style of production suits because it creates the feeling of urgency these songs thrive on.

"Rust" opens the album with some distortion and acoustic guitars and a melancholy vibe that is quickly erased by the effervescent "Coast of Carolina." The sunny melodies of The Beach Boys are recalled in "Tokyo." "Awkward Kisser" sounds like a lament written in the `50's, but is timelessly transferred. "Foreign Room" and "Look to the East" both benefit from a retro quiet to loud dynamic. On "Telekinesis!" Lerner has crafted a smart album full of songs that sound lived in and familiar. "Telekinesis!" is a concise album of songs for the underdog who has fortunately found a new champion in Telekinesis"
Solid and Consistent
Gen X Cliche | Washington, DC USA | 01/09/2010
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Plain and simple, but that's not a bad thing. I agree with the other reviewers. The music is solid and the tracks all share a consistent quality of well crafted music. I really recommend them if you're a fan of Weezer or Kings of Leon."
Great summer listening

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Fun and catchy tunes for summer listening from a new and very talented musician, Michael Benjamin Lerner. He writes and plays all the instruments on this new CD."
