Something epic this way comes
Justin Gaines | Northern Virginia | 03/15/2008
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Originally released in 1998, Spellbound was album #3 from English melodic rockers Ten. Ten made a name for themselves with the powerful melodic rock sound they introduced on their previous albums Ten and The Name of the Rose, but on Spellbound the band made a definite push towards the epic rock sound that fans of their later albums know (and love) so well.

Spellbound includes a good mix of AOR songs and melodic hard rockers, all of which have fantasy themed lyrics. The almost Celtic style trio of songs We Rule the Night, Remembrance for the Brave, and Red are my favorite part of the album, but the whole album is quite good. Gary Hughes is, as always, an incredible presence on vocals, and his songwriting and production skills continue to impress. Ex-Dare guitarist Vinny Burns is no less a presence, coming up with some great melodies and absolutely killer solos.

If you're already a Ten fan, you don't need me to tell you that this is an album worth owning. If you enjoy bands like Dare, TNT, Shy, Pretty Maids, Europe, and Rainbow, you need to add some Ten to your collection, and Spellbound is a perfectly good place to start.
