CD Reviews

He's Brilliant, And This Collection is Wonderful

"Terry Callier is absolutely amazing. He's the consumate hero of soul folk music. I believe, quite possibly, that he is one of the best kept secrets of modern music. This collection will cost you more but it's better then Timepeace or Lifetime (both on Verve) or either of his two Premonition releases. Those are quality, but if you really want to experience of the Best of Terry Callier - this "Best Of" is the real deal. Mr. Callier has managed to grab ahold of what the world needs now and channel it through music that is intellegent, thought provoking and honest. This collection contains classics like "Ordinary Joe," and "What Color is Love," minus the schmaltzy inaccessible stuff like "Where A Lark is Singing" from his Lifetime CD. Everything on this CD is of Terry's finiest ilk. Forever I have searched for a version of "Dancing Girl" that sounds as solid as his live performance and finally here it is. Wrapped around these other gems, it's in perfect company. There is no weak point in this album. I would have done nothing different - except maybe made it a "double" and included the track "When M'Lady Danced," from LifeTime. Other then that one missing track - I don't think it's missing a beat at all. It's a perfect Sunday morning album. It's the perfect happy album. The perfect love album. The perfect sad album - there is something about it that is so geniune it truly is the best of the best. By the way, should you ever wonder whether or not Mr. Callier is worth seeing live let me tell you with all of my heart - GO GO GO! You'll see the world differently. Terry Callier has something more to give then most people walking around crying they are true "artists." If anyone is the real deal it's Terry Callier."
A gift from God

"I discovered Terry through this album about four years ago. and it's probably the most wonderful musical discovery I have ever made. This album is full of absolute treasures. Every word of every song is delivered with sincerity and feeling by a unparalleled voice, rich and textured one moment, gut wrenchingly angst ridden the next. The variety of Terry's work can be summed up by Gotta Get Closer To You, Occasional Rain and Dancing Girl.Whatever your music tastes, this will be one of the best buys you have ever made."
Can he get any better!

"This is truly the very best. There are some slow, soulful ones which you can sit back and relax to wherever you are. His talents reach new heights with this fantastic album, definately not one to miss!"
