CD Reviews

A MUST for Baseball Lovers
Phil Collyer | Brockton, MA USA | 08/28/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"If you love baseball, this CD can't help but make you feel good all over. I'm sure you'll listen to it many times, BUT be sure to listen closely to the words! Cashman's love of baseball, its colorful players and memorable events from the 40's onward are communicated with feeling and passion thru his music and verse. Buy the CD and "pass it on" to your children and grandchildren who enjoy the game."
Great tunes about the National Pastime

"I bought a cassette copy of this when visiting the Baseball Hall of Fame about 7 or 8 years ago and have enjoyed it. Cashman (who worked with Jim Croce and also did "American

City Suite" as Cashman and West) is probably best known for "Talkin' Baseball", which is included here along with other pop/folk/blues tunes. Mostly original though he covers "There Used to Be A Ballpark" and "Centerfield". The latter is a John Fogerty hit, of course; "Ballpark" was written by Joe Raposo

(who did a lot of songs for "Sesame Street" early on) and

Sinatra has done a version.

"Play By Play", and "Hondo Hurricane" are great and "Third

Base Coach" is very catchy. If you're a baseball fan this is

a must, as are the Rhino "Baseball's Greatest Hits" compilations. Surprisingly, Cashman does not do "Take Me

Out to the Ballgame" here, (though there are good versions of it by Dr. John and Carly Simon, among others, on the soundtrack album for Ken Burns' "Baseball")."
