Surf Zydeco's 13 fun and creative tracks prove that California's coast is really not that far from the Louisiana Bayou. There is a strong presence of Zydeco here, thanks especially to Toronto native Kevin Gould's very funky accordion, which colors every track. The ten original songs bring a host of different styles into the gumbo. One can hear the influence of The Beach Boys, The Dead, Ricky Nelson and Los Lobos. "Till Death Do Us Part" has a definite jug band feel, whereas "Before the Sunrise" has a Tex-Mex flavor. Produced by Rick Chelew (T Bone Burnett, Pentangle, Bert Jansch). Instruments featured include accordion, fiddle, acoustic and electric guitars, dobro, mandolin, upright and electric bass, baritone ukelele, drums and an array of percussion including rubboard, triangle, gourd, conga, djembe, tambourine, chair, and hand claps.
