Directors have come to see the Chieftains as an option when it comes time to add a stately grace to the scores of their films, a predilection that provides the impetus behind this anthology. Film Cuts consists of cuts from... more » eight soundtracks, including Rob Roy, Treasure Island (the most generously represented score here), and Far and Away. Highlights include the funereal love theme from Stanley Kubrick's Barry Lyndon and the main theme from The Grey Fox, a waning-days-of-the-West flick that demonstrated that this tight crew can evoke images that are worlds removed from their Irish homeland. --Steven Stolder« less

Recommended! Excellent film score tracks from the always excellent Chieftains. Hard to believe this group is celebrating it's 50th year of performances.

"I bought this CD after years of searching for the music to an old version of Treasure Island starring Charleton Heston and Christian Bale. I'd loved the music since the first time I saw the movie. I was a little disappointed with the CD because the tracks are so short and for an hour+ of movie I expected more. However, the music which is on the CD is just as glorious as it ever was. The non-Treasure Island tracks are also pretty good (although I personally like the TI ones the best...) This is really first-rate celtic/irish music. It's got a nice mix of lively and sedate music.. some of it positively makes you want to dance a jig (that's something I really look for in celtic music). If you want to test it out before you buy, rent the Treasure Island video. It's really a wonderful movie and it'll give you a good idea what's on the CD."
If you have any Celtic blood, it will race to this CD

"I loved Treasure Island, Grey Fox, and Far and Away soundtracks. Chieftains had released an earlier CD without the Far and Away edition, so it's great they added it on. Triston and Isolde is a bit slow for my tastes, but I'm more into the toe tappin' portions of the CD. There tends to be more fun with the Treasure Island, Grey Fox, and Far and Away portions. Very good CD to own, especially if you are a Chieftains fan, or a fan of any of these movies. If you love these particular movies, I definitely recommend it, since, while listening, scenes from these movies tend to come to mind."
