CD ReviewsGreat compilation of material otherwise unavailable fall addict (meyer@math.washington. | Seattle | 07/06/1999 (5 out of 5 stars) "The Fall brought out tons of material, but this may be their best compilation. It consists of singles they brought out on Rough Trade between 80 and 83. We have the great "Prole Art Threat" from their Slates EP, and some of their best singles: "Totally Wired" ("I drunk a jar of coffee, and then I took some of theeese"), "The Man whose head expanded", "Marquis Cha-Cha" and "Kicker Conspiracy". "Wings" was the flipside of the "Kicker Conspiracy" double single and is surely one of the best Fall songs ever. "Neighborhood of Infinity" comes as a great live version which is far superior to the the studio one on "Perverted by Language". This is a great record, most of the tracks are classics you will not find anywhere else. One drawback: the original release of this CD had two more tracks from which I especially miss "City Hobgoblins"." Turn that rackit down simon@doran.dabsol.co.uk | the north of england | 09/19/1999 (5 out of 5 stars) "essentially the singer cant sing, the band cant play but this is pure unadulterated punk ethos.its your uncle bob ,the black sheep of the family, lashed out of his mind and his mates wandering into a cheap music shop thrashing about and generally making fools of themselves.and then devine intervention, uncle bob(mark e smith)in his angry mancunian drawling rap,has something to say,i dont know what but im intriged, later fasinated and theyve got you, your a fan,an obsesive.heres the fall in all there glory, its a two fingered salute to all the pretentious musso pretenders.heres a chunk of a kind of reality served up cold smack in your face.hurrah!" Best fall compilation Andreas C G | Huntington Beach, CA United States | 10/22/2006 (5 out of 5 stars) "It's really too bad this one is currently out of print (2006). I bought this on LP(!!) and was the first introduction to the Fall, and I've been a big fan since. While most of their early albums are worth picking up, this really is an excellent overview of what I consider their best period (1980-1983. It's very varied and well put together. If you can pick this up at a decent price, definitely get it!
This is ideal for someone just starting to check out this band." |
