"This is a production that still has to be heard to be believed. Whether it was mixed at legendary Black Ark Studios I don't know, but if it wasn't, it might as well have been. Not that the dazzling studio effects detract from the rhythmic and lyrical momentum--far from it. The glorious Dylan tribute is symptomatic--this is a very wonderful reggae album. Admirers of the Heptones' familiarly anthologized "Book of Rules" have a further treat in store at length here; and those inquisitive about Lee Perry's vaunted pre-eminence among reggae producers can place this next to Max Romeo's _War in a Babylon_, between the pre-Island Wailers (e.g. "Riding High," "Stand Alone," "Brainwasher" et al.) and "Dread Lion" from _Super Ape_."
