Inspired by J Evans' Paris years, when he was a street musician, In the Wild Years captures both the pathos and the joy of youth. 'Turn Up the Heat', another standout number, closes the album. This haunting song sounds dark, stark, mean and sleazy all at the same time. 'It's a nihilistic eulogy to hedonism,' the author explained. The filling in this tasty retro sandwich of an album, reminiscent of some Bruce Springsteen and Doors material, includes two full-on rockers and a brace of chilling electric blues numbers.
