Synopsis

Album Description
The Kustard Kings' 2002 Confidential Recordings release "Blam!" was hailed as a tour-de-force, and marked the recording debut of this popular instrumental pop-funk-lounge combo. And now, here comes "A Kustard Kristmas"! The season finds the Kings sending out a joyous and unique interpretation of the holiday spirit. Since their formation in 1992, the Kings have not only honed their signature, wickedly tight sound, they have become the perfect house band for the renowned NYC-based Loser's Lounge tribute series. Loser's Lounge honorees have included Burt Bacharach, David Bowie and Brian Wilson. Over the years, The Loser's Lounge performances have featured guest appearances by the likes of John Flansburgh (They Might Be Giants), Deborah Harry, Lee Hazelwood, James Iha (Smashing Pumpkins), Bob Mould, Joey Ramone, Ronnie Spector and Paul Williams. "A Kustard Kristmas," from Confidential Recordings, brings New York's finest instrumental pop-funk-lounge combo to the forefront, as they step out with their upbeat take on the holiday. The album features original tunes and some new twists on a few chestnuts. With their patent-pending sound, you may still be listening to "A Kustard Kristmas" long after the holidays are over.

CD Reviews

Kristmas Time is Here

(5 out of 5 stars)

"This album certainly made my yuletide bright. This is a collection of 15 Xmas tracks by the band best known as the core of Lower Manhattan's legendary Losers Lounge (an approximately monthly series of tribute concerts.) In addition to being a great holiday album, this is an amusing homage to 1970s instrumental rock. The band affectionately and accurately parodies everyone from King Crimson to the pre-Stevie Nicks version of Fleetwood Mac to the Allman Brothers to the Raybeats. My second-favorite track is a cover of "Welcome Christmas" from "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas" done the way Focus would have done it. My first-favorite is Joe McGinty's original tune "Snow Globe Sympheonette" which is pure Kustard Kings.

This is a Christmas album you could stand listening to the other 11 months of the year, so go ahead and order it even if it won't arrive before December 24!"
