Buy The Old Version

"This is a great concert by one of my favorite bands of all time. It was released in 2000 on CD and DVD. The CD has 14 tracks, including "Overture" and "Legend Of A Mind". The DVD has the same tracks. When I heard the concert had been resissued, I was excited because I hoped they would include the entire concert. Not only did they NOT include the entire concert on this reissue, they actually CUT "Overture" and "Legend of a Mind".
I can't tell you if any remastering has been done because I am not going to buy this odd step backwards. I CAN tell you that the original CD as issued in 2000 sounded pretty good and the songs on it caused me to buy their excellent "Strange Times" CD that was just out then. A weird and disappointing choice.
If you want to enjoy this concert, and I recommend that you do so, buy this instead: Live At The Royal Albert Hall 2000"
Timeless!

"Maybe it's cuz I'm getting a bit more sentimental as I age, but it's hard not to be a little emotional listening to this new release. I am hopeful they will release more in the future!"
Excellent Concert

"Saw them live in Atlanta, this CD is like being there again, except with the orchestra."
Why bother?

"I give this 3 stars because I am not sure what the purpose of this release was. This is a re-issue of 2000's CD "Hall of Fame" with Ray Thomas' great song "Legend of a Mind" cut out. The picture inside the booklet is of an empty hall with a slide showing just Justin Hayward, John Lodge, and Graeme Edge. Ray retired in 2003 but was very much active in the original concert, which also aired on PBS and is available on DVD.
The Moodies most recent release at the time was 1999's "Strange Times," and 3 selections from that are included: "English Sunset," "Haunted," and "Words You Say". "English Sunset" really benefits from the concert treatment, acquiring a punch lacking on the original track. John's "Words You Say" is diappointing in that it just stops rather than ends. Ray's flute is great on this track, though. The rest of the songs have all been released in live versions before, most notably 1992's terrific "Live at Red Rocks," where there are better versions. You would think that for this edition they would have released songs from the concert that were not on the "Hall of Fame" CD.
If you have "Hall of Fame," there is no reason to buy this unless you are an inveterate collector like me. Actually, there is no real reason to buy this at all. Just get "Hall of Fame.""
