Brooklyn, NY's THE NEW DRESS aren't the first to come to the idea that punk rock is the idea of rock n' roll stripped down to better express the rawness of the ideas. They do however excel at taking it quite a few steps further. Keeping their songs simple, the power of the personally political lyrics, and just an electric guitar andÊtwo voices leave the ideas with nowhere to go. These are songs meant to be sung as loud as you can back at the band when they set up in your living room, these are songs that capture the essences ofÊtwo people so uncannily, these are songs that seem like they were written for you, and these are songs that do all of these things near perfectly. Obviously the arrangements will draw comparisons to folks musicians like Pete Seeger, Woody Guthrie, etc, but the difference is these songs aren't written to be rallying cries. These songs are deeply personal, painfully so sometimes, and deeply heartfelt. It just happens that these are the types of songs you think you have known and loved your whole life the first time you hear them. THE NEW DRESS excels at finding beauty in simplicity, so with that I will say this record is very simple; 13 proletariat love songs, sung by a boy, a girl, and a guitar. Political, personal, and haunting. This release is one of the things I am most proud to have ever been involved with.
