Product DescriptionMemphis quartet (later trio) the Newcomers were with Stax for over five years but released just six singles during their entire tenure. Originally led on vocals by cult favourite Randy Brown and later by ex-Tempree Terry Bartlett, the group also demoed more than enough songs for a complete album, but one was never forthcoming. Until now, that is.Mannish Boys collects up every surviving Newcomers master and demo - 13 of them previously unissued - and brings them together for a belated CD debut. Both Brown and Bartlett can be heard to good effect throughout; it's something of a shame that the group's singles were spread over such a long period and didn't give them the chance to consolidate their chart success with Pin The Tail On The Donkey in 1971.Fans of group soul - and sweet soul in particular - will find plenty to enjoy in a very welcome release that shows there's still plenty of unmined pure gold in the Stax vaults.A limited edition of 1500 copies.
