Product DescriptionThe Nocturnes is the work of guitarist, singer/songwriter, and visual artist Emma Ruth Rundle, accompanied by drummer Daniel Yasmin. With influences spanning from Sonic Youth to Pentangle, The Nocturnes create a reverb heavy sound featuring haunting melodies in odd meters. The Nocturnes music is dark and ethereal, yet in live concerts, the music can generate into a shoegaze noise jam featuring Emma s pedal board manipulations, Daniel s masterful drum improvisations, and the baritone guitar of Paris Patt from Pride of Kenya. The Nocturnes debut album Year of Spring features songs influenced by several genres, yet remains cohesive in its dominant use of guitar and drums. The Nocturnes band formed while Emma was studying at Cal Arts and met Daniel through psychedelic rock band Animatronics. Together, they moved to Wellington, New Zealand in 2007 to record an EP that evaded the distractions of LA. This became known as The Wellington EP, which features a track written for a one-hundred year old pump organ. The band returned to LA in 2008 to record a full length album, which includes alternate versions of The Wellington EP as well as unreleased songs and original artwork inspired by family photos and the darker side of dreams. The full-length album Year of Spring is co-produced by The Nocturnes, Owen Vallis, and John Baffa and is due out for independent release sometime this year. Currently, The Nocturnes reside in Echo Park, CA and can be heard occasionally on KXLU.
