CD ReviewsThese guys get better with age. rickey l. esteves sr | 05/21/1999 (5 out of 5 stars) "On "Sincerely," the Persuasions have a new sound. It's deeper, more fulsome, and richer. At this stage of the game, face it: they're all baritones. They seem to have gotten better with age, especially Jerry Lawson, who knows his way around a song like Otis Redding and Sam Cooke. I defy anyone to come up with a more infectious track on any Persuasions album than "Building a Home." And the Colonel or Popeye's Chicken are crazy if they don't pick up the group's "Who Stole The Chicken" for a commercial jingle. This is a winning performance, start to finish, with some of the most moving performances in the group's repertoire, especially "Five Hundred Miles" and "Change in My Life." For novelty that reminds of The Ink Spots and Golden Gate Quartet, there is "Life is a Ballgame." There are only four guys on this one, but they sound like a full choir." But if you want a real true Persuasion sound, style and variety all in one, well this is it. I had the priveledge to speak with Jerry Lawson, lead singer, arranger, producer and he agrees. It's his favorite too. Unfortunately Rounder Records did nothing as usual to promote this masterpiece as well as any other Persuasion CDs they now own. Rounder never knew what they had and therefore neither does the public. The Persuasions are living legends, a national treasure and this CD is one brilliant piece of evidence.
