For what may be a return to his roots,Steve Miller's Bingo is far off the mark.He injected his pop sound into these songs making them pretty good muzak.Selections like these should be done with a feeling that's missing here. There are a couple of highlights though due to the lead vocals of Sonny Charles on a couple of cuts. Also it is only 32 minutes long! Who does this anymore?Just saw Steve with Kenny Chesney on tv, maybe he'll have better luck at country.
CD Reviews
Great Blues, but VERY Disappointed about the missing 4 track

"Welcome back Steve and the gang! The disc I bought from a local store is Excellent, though I had initially thought only 10 songs was unusual for these days. I chalked it up to Steve being from the old Rock school when 10 songs was the norm. Now I see he has a special disc with 4 extra songs! WHAT A BUMMER! Corporate (or the artist's) greed at it's best? Now I have to go out and buy that disc. Well, on second thought, maybe I WON'T!
This would have been a 5 star review but my feeling of being ripped off makes me want to give it a 3, so I averaged it to a 4. STEVE! Come on BROTHER! How would YOU feel if you were me, a fan for years?"
60% Steve Miller Band, 40% Something Else, but Very Cool...

"This is a blues cover album, and a fine and fun recording. Steve's 1986 album "Living In The 20th Century" was a blues cover half-album (on side 2 only - mostly Jimmy Reed tunes), and then he did the brilliant "Born 2 B Blue" in 1988, which was mostly pop standards, R&B, and jazz. If you're a Jimmie Vaughan fan, you'll notice right away, as Steve covers 3 of JLV's tunes among the older classics.
This new album is a long-overdue all-blues-and-R&B effort, but be aware that a large portion of the album has lead vocals by Sonny Charles, and if you heard those tunes on the radio, you wouldn't have a clue that it was the Steve Miller Band. Steve's entire career has been made by hits and album cuts with his trademark vocals, including most of the early classics such as Living In The USA, Going To Mexico, Space Cowboy, My Dark Hour, Quicksilver Girl, and The Joker. And everything he's recorded from 1976 onward has had his vocals, so when you buy a Steve Miller Band album, that's what you expect to hear.
Of the 10 tracks on the regular edition of the album, 3 feature another singer, and 2 more are split between Steve and another singer.
Of the 4 bonus tracks on the special edition, 3 feature another singer!
So if you're going for the Special Edition, you'll get 1 additional track that sounds like a Steve Miller tune.
(Of 14 tracks you get 6 that feature all vocals by Steve Miller, and 2 on which he sings portions)
That's my complaint, but this is still an enjoyable romp of an album, and I recommend it to all Steve Miller fans.
Yes, Steve is a guitar player, and on some of his very early work he had other band members sing, but that was the exception, and not what his longtime fans expect to hear on record or in concert. If Steve wants to back-up Sonny Charles, that's fine, but don't call them Steve Miller songs. This definitely should have been credited to "The Steve Miller Band featuring Sonny Charles".

"Are you kidding me? With the bonus tracks we get 44 minutes of music. That might have been almost generous back in the LP days. Take away these four songs and the ten-track album proper gives us 32 minutes. That'd be 2 min per year since last release. The music sounds good, but... a little more please!"
Great Blues Interpretations!!

"I downloaded my own album cheaper, and was very pleased in the songs. Guitar work is great. All interpretations of blues standards, and very well done. We loved the album. It is not Children of the Future, the first album I bought by the Steve Miller Band, or some of the commercialized hits of the 70s and 80s. Straight forward good blues guitar from a master. A very enjoyable album, in some ways great, to a fan or blues aficionado. Super nice tones, and some great earthy vocals. We are very pleased. Bingo! is a winner!"

"Like an old friend you have not seen in years than suddenly they come walking down the road, that is how I feel about this new release From The Steve Miller Band. Upon closer approach I find that time has really been kind to this old friend. Years of touring, a lot of talent, devotion to their craft and clean living really show that this old friend is still very vibrant and still has the Midas touch. Except for a full studio CD 17 years ago and a few track appearances on Paul McCartney's Flamming Pie CD this is the first studio work I have heard from Steve Miller. Mr. Miller said that he has not released any new material because people are just interested in his old hits. Also radio does not play much new rock music, especially by veteran rock artist so why put out new music if it is going to be ignored by radio and the charts. So Mr. Miller stuck a compromise, to release a new CD of blues covers. Steve really puts his stamp and style into these songs. A bit over 30 minutes long, no completes on the length because I prefer quality over quantity. Remember those early Beatles albums were short in time but every track is a gem. My only complete is you don't get the bonus tracks are liner notes on the standard release, it seem you go to pay more for things that should have been on the standard release but that is a minor complaint. Maybe with the positive reaction to this CD and his appearance on Guitar Player Magazine this month my encourage him to complete an entire studio album of original material. I think Steve still has some great songs inside him that needs to come out and share them with his fans. Come on Steve don't take them to the grave with you. I welcome other reviewer comments."
