"First listened to this album on a 5-hour flight to Vegas---didn't know the group, the name or even the genre. Got the disc from the guy next to me who was trying to save me from a boring flight.Could not believe my ears. It starts with some serious and very powerful rock-I literally looked around in embarassment to see if the other passengers could tell it nearly rocked me out of my seat. Then it gets into this haunting very electronic fantasy; an all-American sounding wistful ballad about fighting for what you love (I think); a cowboy-sounding melody; another large dose of rock, solo guitar that makes you groove in your seat, some pretty seductive tunes, and so on.
To describe these songs with words does not do them justice---each song is so different and all their components fit together so well they make a unique sound. All are presented by a powerful and very appealing vocal accompanied by equally powerful guitar, laced with electric violin and wrapped up in super orchestration and great lyrics. Wow. By the time you get through listening, you've been everywhere and you want to go back. These tunes are all really original and the album really exciting to listen to. I mean you get really excited listening to this music.Anyhow, I think I listened to the CD completely three times through during that trip before putting it down. Since then I have listened to it many, many times and cannot even pick a favorite song. Probably 6 of the 12 are my favorites.
For someone who has to put "The Sullied" into one of those categories always asked for by search engines-you can't. They are just too original.
For anyone who gets disappointed when all the songs on a CD sound the same-don't worry. They don't.
For anyone who buys an album because the title track really grabbed them but the rest of the album sucked---don't worry. EVERY track on this CD is great.
Not being a walking encyclopedia of contemporary musicians, nor the best at relating music to its identifying genre---but being someone who just loves to listen to and appreciate good music, Meltdown is simply great."
