Undetected Plagiarism presents The Televangelist And The Architect, a new project from Jerry Chen of Grand Unified Theory. This debut album, The Mass Exodus Of California, is culled from songs written outside of the framework of Chen's other darker, more aggressive rock group. A more subdued effort, this album makes forays into folk, country, and garage rock, incorporating a host of instruments including organ, piano, cello, violin, flugelhorn, pedal steel, and theremin. Self-recorded in and around the San Francisco Bay Area and mixed by Aaron Prellwitz (Sun Kil Moon, Red House Painters, Hella, Erase Errata), this album also features a host of guest musicians including members of Daphne The Painted Lady, The Gris Gris, The Herms, and The Soul Captives. Thematically, this album is centered around movement, both physically and emotionally. The lyrics broadly describe things that mark the end of stages in life, from relationships to careers, from resolution to regret. To put it one way, this is a road trip album for those without a destination.
