Synopsis
Album Description the liner notes of Billy Joe Royal's new album "Now and Then.... Then and Now", Buddie Buie writes: "In 1970, I had the privelege of producing Billy Joe Royal's 'Cherry Hill Park'. I had been a fan since he and Joe South teamed up to give us hits like 'Boon Docks','I Knew You When', 'Hush' and other classics. He amazed me with his unique vocal style and his ability to perform daring vocal gymnastics without sounding mechanical. He was always soulful. Now legendary producer Chips Moman, (Elvis, Willie,Waylon, B.J. Thomas, Highwaymen) has delivered what I think is B.J.'s greatest Album. Chips teamed up with his talented son, Casey, to produce this delightful, refreshing, and unique piece of work." Billy Joe worked with Chips, Casey, and the rest of the "827 Thomas Street Band" over the past several months making this wonderful album. While they were working they laughed, played and ate together. Chips said Billy Joe was the 1st artist he ever recorded that gained 5 pounds in 3 songs. In between eating and laughing, the band and Billy Joe did show why they are all considered as some of the best ever at their musical professions. "Now and Then, Then and Now" contains eight newly recorded tracks, including "Echoes" written by Randy VanWarmer, who also sings backup on this track. Both "Under the Boardwalk" and "Precious Time" were recorded previously and have been remastered. |
