Synopsis

Product Description
Anticipation abounds for THOR?s follow-up to the widely-acclaimed 2005 Smog Veil releases 'Thor Against The World' (SV57) and 'An-THOR-logy' (SV58), and is it any wonder?'From a Halloween appearance on the Vancouver morning show Urban Rush TV to accolades in Blender and New York?s Village Voice, the unanimous joy in this artist was made clear. The U.K.?s highly acclaimed publication Classic Rock reviewed the An-THOR-logy DVD, writing 'Self styled Norse God of metal terrifies grannies on new anthology...And there?s no let-up as a super human selection of performance and Ragnarockin' videos follow...', while naming the release a Top-10 for 2005! Canadian trade publication Chart Attack covered a live performance claiming 'In short, it was madness! A couple friends who joined me on this wild night claimed the show changed their lives as they had never seen anything like it before. All Hail Thor!' All in all, the new release, with 10 songs and a video is THOR?s darkest album in the band?s 25 year run and marks a return to the power metal that earned the band a cult following.

CD Reviews

One of the Best!

(4 out of 5 stars)

"Well, having been a Thor fan since 1983 on and off, I say, this is one of Thor's best to dates. My all time favorite is the mid-80's "Only the Strong," and there have been some hit and misses since then. Last years "Thor Against the World" was a return to greatness, and this one is that much further along. Some of the darkest, heaviest and best music to date, this album smokes. There are some minor criticisms (cheesy cymbal sounds...electric drums? - double vocal style kind of off in places), but overall, in the history of Thor-ness this is one of the best to date! If you understand and enjoy Thor's approach to music, you should truly appreciate this. If you don't, you probably won't. As the other reviewer said, approach with caution...me...I love it!!"

"Obviously, this band has always been misunderstood by many and justifiably so. It really is a hit or miss; Thor is about muscles, singing about Odin, while employing the occasional keyboard and really "narrating" their lyrics rather than singing them. Thor continues to play their bizarre style of classic heavy metal, which sometimes works when the song at hand clicks. They have fun the same way Goddess of Desire does (another weird Metal band) and they are often comparable to Manowar, although this is obviously less sophisticated. This disc is far from being great but you might just understand their world and go along with the ride. Approach with caution."
