"If you enjoy hot bluegrass, you will find that the tracks on this album are all solid, with only "Dueling Banjos" taking a comedic turn. The capacity of the musicians of Northern Light is powerfully displayed. Some of the performances frankly will rot your socks. If you can absorb the string and vocal workout found in "Midnight Moonlight" (assuming an uninhibited environment) without shouting multiple times, somebody should check your pulse and call your next of kin, clergy, etc. "Northern Rail" follows close behind in recuperative powers. Songs like "John Hardy," "Rainmaker," "Dixie Breakdown," "Goodbye Old Pal," and "Kinfolks in Carolina" keep you fed and yet hungry for more. All in all, this CD is a marvelously concocted anti-depressant, a pure tonic. Pass it up and live a life of boredom. It's your choice, after all."
