"The first quartet in G minor is absolutely one of the most esquisite pieces by Brahms and the treatment here by the Menuhin Festival Quartet is simply sumblime. I had always been wary in regards to this composer due to his reputation in the latin countries (from which I come)of heavy in intellect, lacking in emotion. How utterly blasphemous this view is! I first came to know these pieces through the Ax, Stern, Laredo, and Ma treatment and was greatly moved. I wanted to know was their performance an honest one, and I sought other versions and eventually came upon this superior one by the Menuhin Festival Quartet. The C Minor Quartet, majectically performed here as well, conveys all the terror and beauty of the piece and in the very capable hands, for one of the very few times in my life, music moved me to tears. For this I will always be grateful to Brahms and these four blessed performers."
