"almost everybody misunderstands The Future's So Bright I Gotta Wear Shades. the song is an ironic view of how our technological advancements are exceeding america's education systems. our schools are not preparing kids enough for what's out there. maybe the poppy music gets in the way-people take it too seriously. listen to timbuk 3's 6-song album released just before 100 Lovers for the acoustic version. it's much darker and you'll probably understand what it's about better.
timbuk 3 is one of the best groups out there and their music only gets better over time... sinful life is the ultimate wedding song..."
A Great Place to Start

"One thing I love about greatest hits packages from groups with only one legitimate hit is that you never grow tired of them. Timbuk 3's greatest hits package is a good place to start enjoying their music and you will not get tired of hearing songs you've heard a million times on the radio. If you want more info on the band seach the web because there is a least one great web site. After buying this CD and the live one you will have to seach the used bins and I highly recommend the album Eden Alley."
Enjoyable greatest hits from Timbuk3!

"This greatest hits album from Timbuk3 is a good representation of their best. Plus you get the bonus track "Assholes on Parade" which has some of PatMac's best and most aggressive harmonica work. If you'd like to find out where Timbuk3's gone since "The Future's So Bright..." from their debut "Greetings From Timbuk3", check out this album. Since their earliest CDs are no longer available (or hard to find), this may be your only chance to get some of their "Eden Alley" and "Edge of Allegiance" work on CD."
If you only want a song about shades, then bustamove

"Timbuk 3 was a hit in Austin long before AND after the fateful shades song. A shame they aren't together anymore, their live shows were some of the best ever. Another reviewer talked of dopey jug band lyrics (or something similar to that effect). Timbuk 3 is groovy and real. If you just want 80's googoo pop stuff, then Corey Hart is da man for you. You couldn't handle this stuff!"
Wish they were still here

"I saw Timbuk 3 live in Seattle in 1988 and fell in love with their music. It's too bad they are no longer around. This is a good album to buy if you want to get a good flavor for the band. It has most of their "hits", although I believe "The Futures So Bright I Gotta Wear Shades" was the only song they ever made it big with. This compliation album was assemled prior to their final CD "A Hundred Lovers" so you don't get any of those cuts. I recommend Field Guide. The band is fun, the lyrics are interesting, and its just too bad they aren't making more music together."
