Synopsis

Description
Heroes and Friends is an old concept for a new release. Tommy Alverson teams up with some of the best Texas musicians & songwriters to create a record that will soon be a staple on Texas radio. Crossing musical formats from traditional to progressive country to rock 'n' roll and back again, Tommy performs with Texas legends like Rusty Wier, Gary P. Nunn, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Johnny Bush, and Davin James. Heroes and Friends will soon be as timeless as the great state of mind it came from. Songs include: Maybe In Mexico, Tearjoint (w/ Jerry Max Lane), Anytime, Anywhere (w/ Johnny Bush), My Way Or The Highway, Deep Water (w/ Leon Rausch), I Feel Like Drinkin' Today (w/ Mike Graham), I Can't Help Myself Darlin (w/ Gary P. Nunn), Bordertown Girl (w/Ray Wylie Hubbard), It Could Be Worse (w/ Davin James), My Hometown (w/ Justin Alverson), Invitation To The Blues (w/ Ed Burleson), I'm A Memory (w/ Brian Burns), Cheryl Doreen (w/ Rusty Wier), Just Someone I Used To Know (w/ Heather Morgan), Starlight Lounge Review, What'd I Come In Here For? (w Mike Crow)

Independent Texas country at its best...

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Lone Star indie-billy bandleader Tommy Alverson invites a bunch of his pals to play on this album, with contributions by folks such as Ed Burleson, Johnny Bush, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Gary P. Nunn, Rusty Weir, and the legendary Leon Rausch among the more recognizable names on here; "new" artists like Heather Morgan and Jerry Max Lane may also turn a few ears. This is a down-home set by a bunch of raspy Texans who like playing long, late-night sets at sweaty bars, just for the fun of it. It ain't Nashville, and that's alright by me."
