Good music, bad production

"I am big fan of Tommy Bolin. I bought the Live at Ebbets Field 1974 album and thought it was great. I was expecting the live 1976 to be pretty much the same, which was an all out great rock record with plenty of improving. While I am very impressed with the music on this disc, the quality of the vocals and guitar leave much to be desired. Teaser is a great jam, but you can hardly hear Tommy's singing or his guitar work. It gets drowned out by the bass and organ. The same can be said for almost every track on the record. The organ and bass are cranked up very high. For that matter so are the sax and drums. But where are the guitars? I had to turn this up really loud on my stereo just to make out what he was singing so forget listening to it on headphones because its pointless. People People and the Grind are guitarless, but very funky. There's a solo somwhere in wild dogs, you just cant hear it. There is really no point in going on. This a is great CD with great music. However the production kills it completely. Why call it a Tommy Bolin CD when you can't make out Tommy Bolin's singing or guitar playing. Bolin fans will enjoy this. However I am hoping that somebody out there decides to remaster this much like they did the 1974 disc. It should sound more like that. A CD where every instrument can be heard and enjoyed. Please! Bring out the voice and guitar. Considering both are done by Tommy Bolin, it would seem appropriate"

"i am so happy for the t.bolin archives' releases and the reason i like this cd is that i get great live versions of songs that otherwise i might never have heard or bought bad bootleg copies of.(i play guitar )and on my stereo i can hear all the guitar parts and tommys vocals fine.i am listening to it as i write this review. one thing i do hear a couple of times that is a bit annoying is someones mic or perhaps instrument feeding back a couple times in the set.great live versions of teaser and you told me that you loved me(a few bums notes from tommy on guitar solo)i really like this version of wild dogs with keyboard intro it kind of melts into the song much different from Purple.tommy seems RELAXED ..the solo is cool and at the end he does some echoplex.some more of those bolin riffs on shake the devil..although the feedback seems like its on the verge at any moment..a rockin' version of post toastee with great guitar.the set ends with homeward sturt.a great set that sounds good.a must have for bolin fans .if your a beginner try teaser or private eyes.as for this cd,i was (as a long time bolin fan) glad to get it.Tommy we lost you 26 years ago this month(Dec.)and we still miss you very much."
