"This 1972 release was arguably Olivencia's all-time best album. The band's musicians all play like they truly mean business on such searing-hot "Salsa Dura" dance jams as "La Ramera", "La Fiesta De Soneros", "El Nacimiento De Un Guaguanco", "Mondongo A Gogo"--all of which feature the great sonero Sammy Gonzalez on lead vocals. At the other extreme, Paquito Guzman's undeniable skills as a romantic bolero singer are ever-evident on the lush boleros "Una Orquidea Para Ti", "Psicologia" and an inspired cover of the classic Los Panchos standard "Basura". This was just as good an album as Olivencia's "Plante Bandera" and both ARE "Salsa Dura" essentials."
