CD Reviews

Jane Child adds GREATNESS TO EVERYTHING SHE DOES!!

"In Japan, Child is respected as a musician, but in the USA, Jane Child a la "Dont Wanna Fall In Love" and "Welcome to the Real World" has had a fate similiar to many avant garde artists such as Picasso and Nico: They are simply appreciated when they are no longer around! Jane Child is very much alive and around. She collarborated with Brian McKnight on a track entitled "Fight on Pretender" for a Japanese release and has collaborated again with Toshi on what promises to be great new music from Jane-no matter how she is involved here!Check out Jane's "Here Not There" CD as well as her debut 1989 album that was eponomously titled. A few of Jane's songs from her 93 album set the stage for the angry jilted and rock songwriting styles of Courtney Love, Alanis, and Gwen of No Doubt...Just listen to to "Don't Speak" then "SSSHHH" By Jane Child. Which came first and would function as a better prototype... She is truly ahead of her time and this intelligent, versatile foreign singer knows it!Look for her to find her way to Amazon.com with her upcoming album due next year! I hope that Amazon picks up her entire catalog!"

""Maybe Tomorrow" is definately NOT one of the highlights of Jane Child's career. Why? Well she really didn't write this track, only had an hour to lay down the vocals, and had to straighten out the english for the lyrics (supposedly that came from Jane herself, via the "Mona Lisa Smiles" fansite I checked out yesterday)..This track is typical J-Pop/Rock fare, with an annoying Hammond organ line, awful guitars and sitar...and dare I say it, Jane making an pretty sad fist of this track vocally. Now before you all jump on me and send me lots of hate mail, i'll tell you why i'm not happy with Jane's performance on this one. Its pretty obvious that song is written for someone else in mind. Her voice simply cannot reach some of the notes she is asked to, and as a result you can hear her straining to hit notes that she really shouldn't have to. Her voice simply isn't suited to this type of song. Some of the lower notes show her vocal qualities better, her smooth delivery coming through, but her hitting the high notes isn't a pleasant sound. However all, that said, its still good to hear something different and despite all the bad qualities of the song, it at least shows what she's been up to for the past few years. She's always does better when she works on her own huh?"
