CD Reviews

Tony is Jammin!!
John Willis | Boston, MA | 06/17/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I loved this cd. Tony Island is a great band that is much fun to listen to. Many songs can be played over and over. It is eclectic and groovy. Reminded me of King Crimson some what."
Amazing

"Tony Island displays an incredible range of ability in his music styles. There are certain tracks that you'll want to play over and over. An excellent CD--one that you'll be telling others about."

"Soul, jazz & rock meet pop, prog & wit and they all kinda loosely jam together for a while on Meanwhile..., the newest release from Tony Island. I've often wondered what Billy Joel what sound like if he sang as a member in one of Frank Zappa's many bands. Tony's style of singing, along with his aggressive keyboard & piano lead gives me as close an example as I may ever get. This Boston trio has a most unique writing/playing style that is difficult to catagorize. But their music is a lot of fun and easy to listen to. Two qualities that are rarely found together. The great lyrics and eclectic, emotional singing along with the band's array of playing styles will keep you interested all the way through. Check it out. Band personnel are: Tony Island - vocals, piano, keyboards, harmonica, mellodrama; Tom Scotto - drums, found objects, dry wit; Phil McKenna - 5 string bass, both fretted and fretless Stand out tracks for me include: "Love of a Woman", "Harlem P.I.", "Darkest Hour" and "Meanwhile"... (my favorite) Happy listening, (!rKu$ (Dom P. of Progressive Ears.com )"
