Synopsis

Amazon.com
This CD collects the original soundtracks of two beloved movies Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers did together, Top Hat and Shall We Dance. Unlike the many compilations that use Astaire's solo studio recordings for Brunswick, this is a collection of the actual film soundtracks, including dance music and Rogers's vocals, and the classic songs include "Top Hat, White Tie, and Tails," "Cheek to Cheek," "Let's Call the Whole Thing Off," and "They Can't Take That Away from Me." Sound quality is unexceptional but acceptable for these 1930s recordings. If you're not near a TV, this is the best way to enjoy the films all over again. --David Horiuchi

(3 out of 5 stars)

"The two movies collected on this CD are also available on the excellent Chanson Cinema series of Ginger & Fred, Vols 1-3, along with Carefree, The Gay Divorcee, Swing Time, and Follow the Fleet.

I can't speak to the quality of this CD, but it would be hard to surpass that of the Chanson Cinema discs, which are superb, and a must for any fan of Fred Astaire."
