CD ReviewsGreat, fairly undiscovered metal Matthew Rich | Colden (near Buffalo), NY | 04/09/2006 (4 out of 5 stars) "There were show fliers up for a band called Torche at my college (Buffalo State) that were really cool with flaming whales falling from the sky onto houses. They were bizarre and screen printed, so I took one and the same day was given a copy of this CD while cleaning out a back room at the college radio station. I popped it in and listened to the first song. I was like "sabbath!" I expected this because of the promotion company being named after sabbath. Then I listened to the rest of the CD later and thought "helmet!" This is a kick ass CD. It isn't the best modern metal band on earth, but anyone into any kind of fairly slow paced (though they do move around) stoner metal influenced more by sabbath than maiden, this is a great disk to pick up. I only wish I would have had enough money to go to the show, which is in 2 days. Damn!" Restoring my faith in new metal kingyaku | Columbus, Ohio | 08/24/2007 (5 out of 5 stars) "I caught Mentor on a Thursday night satellite radio that focuses on this style music and thought it was pretty cool. I bought the CD right away, wasn't sure what I was getting. Torche brings a really surprising style, with lots of atmospherics, short songs that don't belabor the point and a lack of pointless guitar solos, serial killer lyrics, cookie monster vocals or helicopter double bass drums. Metal is a fairly restrictive musical style and Torche brings a freshness to it I haven't heard since the flood of cool Earache bands of 15 years ago. They've just replaced The Sword as my favorite stoner metal band. Looking forward to the next one. Huzzah!"
