CD Reviews

Only Toriphiles will appreciate this CD single

(4 out of 5 stars)

"This CD single contains only two songs, one of which is the standard album version, so I cannot give it five stars. Your average listener would probably not be able to justify buying this for one song only; for Toriphiles like myself, though, this is a 5-star item because it features a live version of one of Tori's best songs. Heck, I'd buy it just for the picture on the front, but that's just me. As I said, the first track is the regular version of Silent All These Years from Tori's Little Earthquakes album, so don't go thinking it is some kind of special version or remix. As for the live version of the song, it's a little different than I expected. Tori really slows down the pace of it, pausing at odd intervals in her customary way--it makes for a more personal, reflective, and sadder version of the song. It's beautiful, but I fear that only Toriphiles will be truly satisfied with it. If you don't know what EWF stands for, this CD single is probably not for you."
A wonderful song

""Silent All These Years" is a classic Tori song, simple yet deep and far-reaching with its message. I consider it one of the best songs off Little Earthquakes, and it's always a joy to listen to. The live version on this single is amazing, surpassing the studio version, with its slower pace and stronger emotion."
A re-release to promote a very worthy cause.

"This is the 1996 re-release of one of Amos's career-defining songs about self-awareness and the boxed in feeling associated with rape victims - "Silent All These Years." This song was given a re-release to raise awareness for Amos's organization, the Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network (R.A.I.N.N.). The standout title track is the untouched version from her 1991/92 solo debut album "Little Earthquakes." The second track is a live version of the song from her R.A.I.N.N. benefit concert in 1996."
