Moore | Alexandria, VA USA | 02/04/2007 (5 out of 5 stars) "I must confess I bought Frederic Chiu's CD of piano transcriptions for one cut only. I heard Chiu's performance of the Bach-Busoni "Nun freut euch, liebe Christen" on Washington's late, lamented WGMS-FM, and for those incredibly fleet-fingered, sonorous two minutes alone, I HAD to have this disc. Once I had it, I also found that I greatly enjoyed Rachmaninov's transcription of the Bach Partita in E, even if--as the liner notes point out--it contains much more of Rachmaninov than the Bach purists would like. All the other transcriptions here--even the other two Bach-Busoni pieces--strike me as a bit of a yawn, though Chiu's pianism throughout is beyond reproach. But for "Nun freut euch, liebe Christen" and the Partita in E alone, this disc is well worth the purchase price."
