Synopsis

Product Description
When the Travis Larson Band first announced its arrival in 1998, it was clear to fans of instrumental guitar that this was the real deal. In a genre crowded with schoolboy shredders, TLB delivers the whole package. Virtuosity, great songs, world-class production...and soul. Now, three albums and a full-length performance DVD later, the Travis Larson Band is firmly rooted as one of instrumental music s most important, critically acclaimed acts, having worked on record with Steve Lukather (Toto), Victor Wooten (Bela Fleck), Vinx (Sting, Herbie Hancock), Hugh Syme (Rush, Aerosmith. With Rate Of Change, the fourth studio release from the band, TLB has hit full stride. Even in light of the quality of the preceding award-winning records, this album stands above it all, and represents the band s full potential. Creatively, technically, and sonically, Rate Of Change is the album that is causing instrumental guitar fans to once again demand great MUSIC from their heroes.

It just keeps getting better

"When I listen to TLB's Rate of Change I take a journey. And as I listen again and again, I notice more and more of the musical scenery along the way. From the opening notes (and fancy footwork of drummer Dale Moon) of Sticks and Stones, the listener embarks on a path that varies from intricate and technical, to smooth and lush, to exotic and expansive.

From their first album (self titled Travis Larson Band), I have been impressed certainly by the musicanship and recording, but most especially by the ensemble -- a whole that is much greater than the sum of its parts. It is in the composition that one can see the greatest change across TLB's four CDs. The songs on Rate of Change are even more musically balanced between the trio than their previous (and excellent) work. I'm struck by the natural interplay between Jennifer Young on bass and Travis Larson on guitars with seamless give and take. Dale Moon's drumming has always been exciting to isolate, but on this release, one hears songs within songs. I suppose the "delta" that features in this album's graphic design is appropriate both for the threesome as a unit as well as the continual development this band continues to display."
