Synopsis
Amazon.com Perhaps the most overlooked and underrated band to spring from the grungy Northwest landscape of the late '80s/early '90s, the Treepeople made straightforward rock that was smart, convincing, and able to punch holes through brick walls. Led by the double guitars and vocals of Doug Martsch (now in Built to Spill) and Scott Schmaljohn, the Treepeople hack through 10 songs of tangled, punk-powered guitars and urgent, bruised lyrics on Just Kidding, the band's finest hour. While the production may be somewhat lacking, there is no denying the spark of the band's unique guitar sound and the drive of standout cuts like "In C," "Neil's Down," and "Nod and Blink." A lost treasure. --S. Duda Similar CDs

CD ReviewsLofi indie rock at its best Brian St. John | APO, AE USA | 11/20/1999 (5 out of 5 stars) "Any fan of Doug Marsch's work should own this CD. Some of these songs actually approach classic status. Buy now or be permanently outta the loop!" Too little Dug wowsers | Cardiff by the Sea, CA United States | 04/25/2000 (3 out of 5 stars) "I am a Dug fan. I am not a Smalljohn fan, though. The latter is okay and has some okay songs, but Dug is a genius, or at least I'm fond of his music. This album only has 4 Dug songs, and thus 6 Smalljohn songs...6 too many. It's like Husker Du, where I only want to hear Bob Mould. Dug's songs, on this album, are good, but not his best Treepeople effort (The double ep CD is the must)."
