Superb late Feldman!!!

"There are not many recordings of this work (I know 4 nowdays), one of the most characteristics in Feldman's last years. I know Woodward's performance and Nonken's one, really good both of them, but I prefer this one, played by the great modern pianist Markus Hinterhauser, a player who knows Feldman's world in deep.



This is a long piano work, based on long and slow variations of sound and, I could say, colour, as the own Feldman wrote about his works, in comparison with those Persian carpets in which colours are connected and changing through slow transitions and unions. This is the typical Feldman's final period piece, like For Bunita Marcus (Four years later, 1985) or For Samuel Beckett, a kind of quite music hard to listen for those who are not used to, but with a great inner power in its ethereal external figure.



As I wrote before, I know three performances of this work, Nonken, Woodward & Hinterhauser. Col legno's one is which I like more, from the technical point of view and based on the recording's quality too, something very important in this music, in which echoes, silences... are the base of the music. Of course, tempo is something very important in Feldman's music; Hinterhauser is the one that takes more time in express the notes, waiting for the echoes ends and for the vibration of the piano it's heard.



The only problem is this CDs it's not easy to find and really very expensive, but if you like Feldman's piano music it worths.
