"Who'll Speak for Love features Trijntje Oosterhuis singing at her very best; she breathes new life into these songs. When Trijntje sings, you listen--and you listen closely, too because what she does is truly incredible. It always amazes me just how sensitive Trijntje gets when she delivers fine ballads like the ones on this album. This CD gives us a lot of great material performed by Trijntje whose name in German is Traincha. The quality of the sound is excellent and the artwork is very nicely done.
"Any Day Now" starts the CD off with an excellent tune. "Any Day Now" features Trijntje in the spotlight; and that lovely musical arrangement works very well for this ballad. The music, however, never steals the spotlight away from Trijntje; it supplements her performance and this is a very good arrangement. "Love Is Still The Answer" has a very pretty melody with great percussion; and I really like "What The World Needs Now." "What The World Needs Now" is a classic Burt Bacharach number that could never truly go out of style; and Trijntje sings this wearing her heart on her sleeve. I could never tire of hearing Trijntje singing "What The World Needs Now;" the keyboard work on this tune is also nicely done. "One Less Bell To Answer," another Burt Bacharach number, gets the royal treatment from Trijntje as she sings this to perfection--and beyond!
"This Girl's In Love" sounds nothing short of heavenly when Trijntje delivers this with great sensitivity; her excellent diction bolsters her performance even more. This is particularly impressive since she is Dutch; I never really hear a Dutch accent when she sings American songs and that's grand.
"Who'll Speak For Love," the title track for this album, has a wonderful musical arrangement that plays beautifully as Trijntje sings this very sweetly; and I especially enjoy hearing her sing "I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself." "I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself" is a gorgeous ballad about a love that has ended; Trijntje truly captures all the emotions in the lyrics to this song and just one listen proves it. "Don't Make Me Over" has some pretty fine percussion with excellent keyboard work to enhance the natural beauty of this number; and "Don't Make Me Over" is clearly a major highlight of this CD.
"Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head" gets a fine interpretation from Trijntje who sings this again wearing her heart on her sleeve; and this tune holds its own very well. "Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head" was always one of my very favorite Burt Bacharach songs. "Painted From Memory" also has a great arrangement; and the CD ends strong with Trijntje performing "On My Own." "On My Own" is extremely charming and it impresses me; I hear this and get tempted to buy another album by Trijntje!
Trijntje Oosterhuis never disappoints her fans; they will surely want this in their collections. Moreover, I hope with CDs like this one more Americans will discover the wonderful talent of Trijntje Oosterhuis. People who enjoy the music of Burt Bacharach will also enjoy this album.
