"Guiseppe Martucci, composer, pianist, and conductor, belongs to the late 19th century Italian music renaissance, and was certainly the most important Italian composer of that period. Obviously, he was greatly influenced by the late German romantics like Schumann, Brahms and Wagner, but his compositions are definitely Italian. His complete opus includes 2 symphonies and other orchestral works, 2 piano concerti, an oratorio, a mass, some piano pieces, songs, and the two trios for piano, violin and cello recorded here. These two trios, composed over a very short period, are typical of Martucci's work. The music is quite accessible, lyrical, passionate, with moving meditative passages. The Trio Mezzena-Bonucci is new to me, and it was a pleasure "discovering" it. I thoroughly enjoyed their fine interpretation of the works, and technically, this recording is perfect; can one ask for more? If you enjoy good chamber music,
you will not be disappoint."
