"Trisomie 21 are a French darkwave band comprised of Philippe and Hervé Lomprez. Their lush soundscapes provided a moody counterpart to bands such as Xymox and New Order in the late eighties and early nineties. Though they generated a cult following in the goth scene widespread commerical success eluded them. In fact after being mesmerized by their haunting vocals and moody synths while listening to the album "Million Lights" in a friend's car in 1989 I could not score a CD anywhere in the States.
I am thrilled that one of the most underated bands of that era has made such a glorious comeback. The new album, "Happy Mystery Child," is an artistic triumph. In an era when everyone has seemingly heard it all they have served up contemporized 80's with warmth and polish. T21 still have a knack for tastefully combining electronic elements with guitar hooks like a more driving, brooding version of the Cure. Intricate textures complement mature songwriting without sounding slick or overproduced. This album resonates with my inner goth, disappointed by the world yet still yearning for unspoken beauty."
