CD Reviews

Finally, some music that doesn't [...]
I. McGrath | Pondicherry | 05/03/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Ok, I know that by now TurboNegro has gotten played on MTV, what with Bam and the Wild Boys. But dear God! Finally something that hasn't been worked over by the [...] that turns out most of what we get exposed to these days.

These tracks come at you nice and hard, but with a surprising melodic undertone that sneaks itself in there. Until I picked this up, I was on the verge of dismay that all we were left with in this world was either puke-inducing emo or the nonsensical teeny-crunch of [...] like slipknot.

I haven't picked up Apocalypse Dudes yet, but I'm going to. I'd just say that if you want to try something out that will definitely kick your ass without making you feel like a 13-year old trying to annoy your parents, check Ass Cobra out."
The best CD ever!!!
J-Abs | Slidell, LA | 10/24/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"J-Abs was chillin one day with Gene Garber wearin his throwback 1987 Braves jersey and Garbs asked me if I had ever heard of Ass Cobra by Turbonegro. I told him I had not but with a name like that I was definately interested. So we headed to the North Platte state fair and they were the headlining act. People were actually booing Loverboy trying to get them off the stage so we could get to some real tunage. So when they opened with Mobile Home the house erupted. This had to be the best show I have seen since well Grim Reaper in 83. The drummer was mad cold kickin. For the finale they had this huge ass cobra come out of the amp and hiss at everyone telling them that they rocked and too bring on the Black Mamba cuz he would kick his butt. Afterwards J-Abs was so impressed that he followed their tour from North Platte to Des Moines to Council Bluffs to Mexico. If you ever get a chance to see this band live do yourself a favor and check it out. You won't be as cool as me and Garbs but you may hit the coolness radar screen finally."
Hardest cd I own, hardest band I've seen...

(5 out of 5 stars)

"I first heard of TN last summer when I saw a poster at the Southside festival in Tubingen. I thought "hmm, interesting." Just under a year later they played a club in D.C. & I thought "any band calling themselves Turbonegro has got to be worth checking out." So I went having never heard or seen them. Absolutely one of the hardest shows I've been to, with buckets of blood even. I played the back of the hall and observed. At a show like this you just know someone's going to get stomped out. Sure enough about half-way through their set, a victimization. I'm thinking he was a poser who went for the scene, when he should have just went for the tunes and played the back like me. Oh, well, some young punks got to learn the hard way.

I left the show that night amazed how they moved the crowd on (...),' & it wasn't long after that I got Ass Cobra & it didn't disappoint. I use to think that Iggy & the Stooges had the hardest play list ever. Now I know its these dudes.

8/20

I finally accept that Bad Mongo IS the hardest song I've heard laid down (use to b "Pay to Cum" by Bad Brains (the '82 ROIR one)). Vocally, these dudes just stay on top of the track like you'd expect TN's hardest song. Like some other dude said, if you don't know TN, you suck!

I saw TN on their 1st of 2 nights at the House of Blues. A real clean show, Hank came out in a white floor-length fur cape, awesome. I must be a bad*ss because I got kicked out. Apparently HOB were being real fascists that night, kicking people out left and right. TN played maybe 30minutes but I respect them for it. Why should they play a long set at a venue that's kicking their fans out, while the remaining 'goodies' make the owners rich off drinks?"
