"I'll try to keep this short. I just got this today 10-21-04, i'm on the last track and this whole cd was unbelievable like lots of other metal reviews out there i'll agree this is quite possible the best newcomer to the metal seen in europe, these guys just wreak with power/atmospher/passion. perfect blend of just about everthing. since i've only listend to this once i can't give a complete rundown on all songs, but they do blend together very well. I've only bought one other import for $40 dollars before and that was Virgin Steele's "Invictus" and now this and it was worth every penny, if you like viking esque' metal, folk, bands like amon amarth, bal-sagoth, ensiferum, give these guys a chance i'm sure you'll be pleasently surprised like i was, enjoy. i know this will be in my player for a while."
This albums is EPIC!

"If you have any interest in Vikings, Folk Metal, anything related to Norse culture, BUY THIS ALBUM!
This has become to be one of my favorite albums. i cannot get enough. there are trumpets, violin, and accordion, all backed by some powerful and creative complimentary guitar riffs.
The introductory track makes you feel as though you just sat down to watch an epic battle scene from an massive budget movie. the feeling changes after that track, but in a good way. every song is upbeat and happy but not at all. if that makes sense. there are unique breakdowns in some songs that have you thinking "wow, i never would have thought to have that there".
Turisas has a very unique sound that i have yet to find elsewhere. This album, and The Varangian Way, are both amazing albums that deserve no less than 6 out of 5 stars, however, amazon won't let me give that rating.
if you have any interest in music AT ALL, do yourself a favor and buy this album."
THESE GUYS AREN'T KIDDING WHEN THEY SAY "BATTLE METAL"!

"If you ever do a search, you'll find that there are literally dozens of different sub-categories of Metal. Death, Black, Viking, Folk, Melodic, Symphonic and Heavy, just to name a few. And now TURISAS have introduced a whole new one: BATTLE METAL!
So what is Battle Metal? It's music that gets you pumped up for Medieval Armageddon, that's what it is! I'm quite sure that if you play this CD while watching "300" you'll be able to rip doors off hinges and bench-press your SUV before the movie ends. It's nearly impossible to listen to this and not feel this ancient brutality flow into your veins.
For me, the chaos starts with "As Torches Rise" bringing to mind the beginnings of one wild riot, complete with torches, pikes and pitchforks.
The momentum doesn't die down with "Battle Metal", the title track and one of this album's many masterpieces. Great shouting!
"The Messenger" pays homage to the oft-forgotten pawn in battle, who's only enemy is Time.
"Sahti Waari" sounds a bit more Folk Metal than Battle Metal, but it's still a great piece, one of my favorites, in fact.
"Midnight Sunrise" has two versions on this album. The original one is the best. The live version is not so good because the song is done minus the choir parts, which were very good. The volume on the live version sounds really muted, too.
My favorite drinking song in Metal is "Happy Little Boozer" by Korpiklaani, but "One More" gets my vote for second best. Raise your pints up high for your fallen comrades!
Finally, "The Heart of Turisas", "The Land of Hope and Glory" and "Katuman Kaiku" are also really great.
CD booklets often don't warrant comment, but when you see the pictures of the band members, you'll see that they mean business! And the two-page spread in the middle would make a great poster!
For sheer atmospheric music, it doesn't get much better than this!"
