Before commenting on the CD I need to tell you about our son.
We adopted a little boy from China in early 2007 at the age of 20 months and began playing this CD for his naps and bedtime not long after bringing him home. At this writing (10/2009) he's now four years old and one of the truest joys of our lives.
Our son has faced some difficult challenges given his post cleft lip/palate surgeries, orphanage-related language, feeding, and other developmental delays, and possibly atypical autism (PDD-NOS). He has occastionally suffered from night terrors as well, waking up sobbing inconsolably for as long as an hour or more. When he has most seriously needed comfort his limited communication skills have been to varying degrees a barrier to providing him with comfort.
Music, they say, is a universal language. We knew our son loved music before we came home with him--he was highly attentive to music on TV in our hotel rooms in China, and a little stuffed white mouse music box that played "Toyland" (I think) we brought for him quickly became his favorite sleepy-time companion and comfort.
Once we were back home this CD, "Softly We Sing", also became a favorite of his and ours. We played it at his nap and bedtime many, many times. I'd often sing through every song on the CD while rocking him to sleep. (I'm his dad.) Before long he began to hum along with the tunes.
A few months ago we apparently lost our copy. He hasn't missed it, as we have other good lullaby CDs, but I have. :-)
The song "Go To Sleep" ("Suliram"), so apposite to our situation, became a favorite of mine the moment I first heard it.

A Beautiful Collection

"I first heard this album working as a nurse in a hospital NICU nursery. I saw so many babies soothed and rocked to sleep with this music. It consistently drew compliments from parents. I just gave a copy to my sister-in-law for her and her new baby girl. She loves it too. Every track is soft, soothing, rocking chair-cuddle music. Highly recommended."
A Wonderful Lullaby CD

"I first bought this CD based on the songs that it has in the CD. The first time I played it for my son--while I was trying to put him down for a nap--it worked like a charm!! We have also learned to pack the CD when we are traveling because my son (who is 19 months old now) has gotten so used to listening to it as he drifts off to sleep that sometimes, especially if we are somewhere new, he is not able to go to sleep without the CD."

"I think this CD is cute. not only does it have wonderful children singing but it also has a nice instumental version. I would definitely recommend it to anyone with an infant."
A musical masterpiece!

"As a mother of a newborn son, I have been somewhat skeptical of all the "trendy" newborn CDs being released. I bought this one on a whim, and couldn't be more pleased! The vibrant melodies weave a gossamer thread of peace over my busy life! Thanks to the twins for making such beautiful music!"
