CD ReviewsThe Heart of Texas punk/country/pop riverscircus | Austin, TX United States | 04/21/2005 (4 out of 5 stars) "Rick Broussard is the Real Deal, a charismatic songwriting and performing whirlwind of a purist whose talent far transcends the boundaries of his Austin, Texas, home-base. I've been seeing his intense live performances in Austin for years, and can laugh in agreement with what one new fan recently said (unironically) after talking with him at a show: "I think I just met a real rock star." I've always loved the Clash, George Jones, the Beatles, Buddy Holly, and classic punk/pop/country in general, and here it all is in one energetic, tuneful, mesmerizing package---and Broussard wrote the songs himself: "Step Fast," "Good Used Heart," "Angels Cry," and "Blues in the Night" are classics, and the rest of the songs are darn good and goose-bump inspiring, as well. The CD meshes 60s-pop/country/punk/cajun/swing in a completely original, fast-stepping, lyrically-intelligent way---you can hear the influences behind Broussard's work, but are also aware that he's gone a few steps beyond, into his own as-yet uncharted territory. My advice (and no, I don't know Broussard personally): Listen to this CD and then help get this man out of Austin and onto the international stage. His originality and intensity and quality deserve a much wider audience. (p.s. You can hear tracks from the CD on the group's home-site: http://www.twohootsandaholler.com/pages/4/index.htm) " New Two Hoots & a Holler CD is a MUST HAVE! D. C. Clegg | Austin, TX USA | 04/20/2005 (5 out of 5 stars) "The new Stag release of Rick Broussard's Two Hoots and a Holler is sure to become an instant classic. This CD contains excellent re-recordings of some of Broussard's most classic songs as well as new songs that are among the best that Rick has written. This is also the first recording of Two Hoots' haunting version of Sukiyaki. Stag recording artist Jesse Dayton has done a might fine job indeed in producing this must have CD."
