Awesome old-fashioned gospel music

"If you like upbeat, old-fashioned gospel music (the Speers, the Gaithers, Blackwood Brothers), or if you're a Merle Haggard fan, give this CD a try. On the other hand, if you can't stomach country music, and your preference for Christian music is more smooth and contemporary (along the lines of the Winans and Sandi Patti), full of introspection, you probably won't like this much. This is simple, straight-forward old-timey Jesus-Saves style gospel music. Merle Haggard's deep, slightly rough-edged voice coupled with Albert E. Brumley, Jr.'s deep, Johnny Cash-ish voice are together a great combo. The songs include many written by Albert Brumley senior; highlights are Victory in Jesus, I'll Meet You in the Morning, and and awesome rendition of Albert Brumley Sr.'s I'll Fly Away. I listen to this CD often --the familiar, perfect-for-singing-along music takes me right back to the Southern Baptist tent revivals of my childhood -- all that was missing was Brother Eddie on stage, leading the flock. For me, this is the musical version of meatloaf & mashed potatoes -- pure comfort food."
